David Zimmerman
David Zimmerman is an American photographer working in New York City and Taos, New Mexico. He uses the skills he has developed over almost 30 years as a commercial photographer (clients include Pepsi, Mercedez-Benz, American Express and Unilever) to document fragile landscapes under threat from our changing environment and the casual disregard of modern society. The images he produces have an ethereal beauty that belies the very real message of concern they contain. Shot on large format equipment and with a mastery of light, the prints are a masterclass in both the art and technique of photography. His Desert series was recognised as such when it won him the Sony World Photographer of the Year award in 2009. We are also featuring his ongoing long term project documenting the Salton Sea in southern California - a once pristine body of water that has become a toxin-fouled and debilitated shadow of its former self.
