James Sparshatt
Land of the Inca
James Sparshatt lived in South America for four years working as a guide for Explore! in Peru, and as a photographer and then editor of the Bolivian Times newspaper. Much of this time was spent travelling in the mountains of Peru, the Inca heartland. These images portray the beauty and majesty of the landscape as well as the Q'echua-speaking descendents of the Inca, who despite centuries of struggle and marginalisation, remain. Their fiestas, dress, and much of their culture intact - their pride still palpable.
This exhibition was shown at the Royal National Theatre in London in June 2006 and again at London's Peruvian Embassy.
